Google releases Chrome .deb file for Linux
While this may not be the latest news, I’d thought I’d share that Google Chrome is now available for Linux. The previous link takes you to a page where you can subscribe for Linux updates but if you scroll to the bottom, you can actually download a .deb file directly. But you are forewarned well by Google, this is strictly alpha software and is not meant to be used in a production setting. The web browser is fast becoming my favorite web browser and I can only wait till a Firefox plugin to Chrom plugin plugin comes out
. I’m really missing AdBlock Plus for Firefox. Anyway, the new V8 JavaScript engine for Chrome is truly amazing and with today’s Web 2.0 application “littered” Internet, you can really feel the speed. Flash does not seem to be working, but it seems possible (though I haven’t tried this particular solution).
I installed Chrome on a Xubuntu machine. To install it yourself, download the .deb file, and in a terminal switch the directory to witch it was saved. Run “sudo dpkg –install [filename]” and check the main menu’s “Network” folder for the menu link. Here is Chrome running on my machine:
Don’t forget this is alpha software! If you are running this on Linux, help the developers out by filing a bug report!
